QuakeSpy/2 0.76ß, (c) SDG 1996-1997
-----------------------------------
This is the first public beta of QuakeSpy/2. QuakeSpy/2 is a utility
that lists response time, number of players, rules, etc playing on a
running Quake server. QuakeSpy/2 is in no way associated with the well
known QuakeSpy for Windows 95, we just couldn't think of a better name.
We hope that no one objects to us calling this utility QuakeSpy/2.
QuakeSpy/2 was written by two of the SDG members and is now publicly
released as beta, if you want to know more about us, read the SDG.TXT
file that accompanies this package.
Please keep in mind that this is a beta, the command line version and
interface was originally designed to allow us to test it and it will
soon be replaced by a PM GUI (hopefully). The information we are looking
for with this beta is: does it work for you, bugs in the network code,
etc. Please contact us if you find anything strange with it.
Requirements: OS/2 with an internet connection.
Usage: Well, QuakeSpy/2 is still in beta, so no great docs for
now. If you type QSPY2 at the command line and it'll
show the options. Here's a short description of them
<host> Is either the dotted ip address of a server
or a host name.
<port> Is the port to use on the specified host.
You don't have to specify a port, QuakeSpy/2
will use port 26000 by default if you don't
tell it otherwise.
-np Tells QuakeSpy/2 not to list any player
names and associated information.
-nr Tells QuakeSpy/2 not to list any rule
information.
-ns Tells QuakeSPy/2 not to list any message and
packet statistics.
-nh Tells QuakeSpy/2 not to show the table
header (useful for rexx scripts where you
redirect output to a file, see the qlist.cmd
rexx script for details).
-ll N Tells QuakeSpy/2 to make a logfile with
information on what occurs while querying
the host. Substitute N for a number between
0 and 5 (including 0 and 5), "-ll 0" means
no logging at all.
-lf FNAME Use this switch in conjunction with -ll N to
specify a logfile. If you use -ll N without
this switch a unique logfile (QS_????.LOG)
will be created every time you run
QuakeSpy/2. Using this switch, you can tell
QuakeSpy/2 to append log information to the
file FNAME.
It is very likely that you will want to use the -nr and
-ns switches most of the time (if you use QUakeSpy/2 at
all that is).
Things to come: - A nice PM GUI
- Multi-threading for fast querying of multiple servers
- A battle monitor, for monitoring DM and CTF battles.
- The ability to launch Quake/2 (there is an unofficial
OS/2 version of Quake v1.01 floating around on the
net, please do not ask us for a copy of it, WE WILL
NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DISTRIBUTE IT, since it is
quite possible that ID Software will have something
against it).
Disclaimer: QuakeSpy/2 is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any
kind, either express or implied, including but not
limited to the implied warranties of merchantability and
fitness for a particular purpose. In no event shall SDG,

of such damages.
Contacting us: Send email with bug reports, comments, etc to

sure to put QuakeSpy/2 in the subject line.
